TALENT

Genticorum

GenticorumOver the past decade Quebecois band Genticorum has become a fixture on international world, trad, folk and Celtic music scene. Their energetic original and traditional music incorporates dynamic, contemporary North American and European folk styles, weaving together precise and intricate melodies and harmonies. Original band members Pascal Gemme on fiddle & feet, and Yann Falquet on guitar & jaw harp are joined by Nicholas Williams on flute, accordion and piano. Nicholas is from the well-loved Contra dance band Crowfoot. He heightens Genticorum’s jubilant musical feast with his extensive understanding of great Contra dance music. The band is already established as a legendary concert ensemble, and is now making their mark as an equally outstanding Contra dance band.

Triple A+

What do you get when you mix 2/3 of the Great Bear Trio with 2/3 of the Free Raisins…. I bet you weren’t thinking a great dance band ;) but that’s exactly what you get with this absolutely stellar lineup of talent.  Triple A+ is a foursome of extremely talented young players. Andrew and Noah VanNorstrand (NY) are from Great Bear Trio, where Andrew plays fiddle, electric and acoustic guitar, and Noah plays fiddle, mandolin and foot & drum set percussion.  The two have played nationally for over a decade, pushing the boundaries and setting the standard for modern Contra dance music. From the Free Raisins comes Audrey Knuth (MA) on fiddle and Amy Englesberg (WA) on piano and accordion.  Audrey is an unstoppable force on the fiddle, and Amy is a master of those great modern grooves. Triple A+ combines these forces for a new and energetic dance experience.

Frannie Marr, a long time West Coast favorite, has had her calendar bursting at the seams with calling opportunities across the country. She is loved for her cheerful and easy going manner.  Her hallmark is quick walkthroughs, clear calling, and letting the dance and music flow. She chooses fun dances, and her teaching is quick and clear. Frannie loves to dance, and it shows in her calling.

Sarah VanNorstrand comes from Syracuse, New York. She has called at many weekends and festivals nationwide. She is popular because of her engaging manner, as well as her clear and effective teaching style. She has a large repertoire of fun and interesting dances. She is attentive to the dancers and strives to make sure everyone is having as much fun as she is.
