BAND & CALLER

Masterful Atlanta caller, Cis Hinkle, has delighted contra dancers since 1985 with her skilled teaching, welcoming manner, playful enthusiasm, and masterful selection of dances. She teaches quick and clear with flawless timing and a contagious sense of fun.

Notorious' performances are new and exciting, featuring traditional American, Celtic, and Eastern-European tunes and songs, swing, blues, and the group's original compositons. Eden MacAdam-Somer on fiddle brings classical technique and international versatility to the melody lead; Larry Unger on guitar and banjo writes unforgettable tunes and is the undisputed master of contra rhythm and blues; Sam Bartlett on mandolin is everybody’s favorite virtuoso stuntman; and Mark Hellenberg is the percussionist in demand by all of the top contra bands. A favorite band at dance camps, Notorious always provides a thrilling dance experience.

INFORMATION

Location

Known and loved by dancers throughout Sonoma County and beyond, we’ve been told that Monroe Hall has the finest dance floor in all of Northern California! The hall boasts a beautiful maple floor — originally laid in 1947. The floor offers resiliency due to its premium construction and a twice-yearly treatment with lemon oil. The ambience of the hall harkens back to a time of comfort and grace – and reflects its history as a social hall (starting in 1922). While resting between sets, dancers can gaze at the original warm redwood walls lined with horseshoes from mules, oxen, and horses; a collection of square nails, painted saw blades, old farm equipment, antique fire extinguishers and much more.

Directions

Monroe Hall is located at 1400 W. College Ave., Santa Rosa

Food

We’ll provide two meals at Monroe Hall as part of Faultline Frolic – Saturday evening features local tamales or a vegan entree, Michael Martin’s home-grown salad greens and dressing, and rice. Sunday morning we’re making pancakes and sausage (meat and vegetarian), with juice and coffee. We’ll also feature snacks throughout the weekend and lunch fixings for Sunday afternoon. Saturday lunch is on-your-own.

Attractions

Please ask us for specific suggestions for North Bay delights beyond dancing — like hikes, picnics and wine tasting, to round out your vacation.

Fragrance Free Policy

Faultline Frolic is a "Fragrance Free" event. Please do not use scented products (cosmetics, cleaners, and personal hygiene items). Chemicals used in perfumes and fragrances cause allergic reactions in some of our dancers. Many reactions include irritated eyes, dizziness and nausea, and a few of our dancers are known to experience symptoms that are even more severe (e.g., trouble breathing). In consideration of our valued dancing friends who are affected, please come scent free.
