Apple Tree Morris
Sebastopol, CA

Apple Tree Morris is the San Francisco North Bay's first and only morris team. The morris is a festive seasonal dance that dates back hundreds of years to the agricultural communities of the Cotswold Hills in Southern England. It is boisterous, athletic and colorful, and very, very English. Some people say the morris brings luck; others say it's a fertility dance. We know it's one of the best ways around to welcome the change of seasons.

Apple Tree Morris was founded in 1998 by morris veteran Kalia Kliban, and we ve performed at a large variety of venues, including the Sebastopol Apple Blossom Parade, the Church of the Incarnation May Fete in Santa Rosa, and the Pelican Inn in Muir Beach.

Come join us at dawn on May 1 as we dance the sun up.  Dancing starts at 5:30 AM and continues until about 20 minutes after sunrise.  We'll be dancing behind the Community Center Youth Annex, at 425 Morris St. in Sebastopol, in the space between the pond and the traffic circle.  Park on the street, and then follow the candles.  There will be morris dancing to watch and dances everyone can do, as well as wonderful music and singing.  We'd love it if you'd join us for this celebration!  Dress warmly, as it can be cold in the pre-dawn hours.  This is a free event!

We hold workshops for beginners in the fall. Anyone who's interested in dancing morris should contact us in July or August; we've generally got the workshops scheduled by then.

May morning

Sunrise, May 1, 2005

Here we are dancing at the Ace in the Hole Pub, Sebastopol's cider brewpub and home of Ace Cider, the flagship product in the battered but proud West Sonoma County apple industry. Everybody should drink lots of Ace Cider because we really like these guys and also it's wonderful cider.

Our first-place trophy from the 2001 Apple Blossom Parade in Sebastopol.
We won in the "Novelty" category. If you win in an equestrian category, your trophy has a horse on it. If you win in the "Novelty" category, you get -- well -- one of these.

Here's our latest group picture, in front of a whole lot of apples at the Sonoma County Harvest Festival.
